Take an immune system booster like Emergen-C. I use Emergen-C when I first start to feel congested, and it really helps. It's full of vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamin C and Zinc.

If you have chest and throat congestion or pain, drink mint tea and/or green tea (I like to make a big cup with one bag of each.) The mint tea really helps to cut congestion, and the green tea is full of antioxidants to fight the cold off.

To prevent getting a cold, the best thing is to wash your hands a lot. It can make your hands feel chapped when the air is cold, but it's worth the payoff to not get sick as often!

A cold is a virus. Fighting off a cold depends on the strain of the virus, and the strength of your immune system. make sure you take a lot of vitamin c, eat a healthy diet, and drink lots of water. Antihistimines are good to prevent infections in the throat and ears, which is often what causes colds to last for weeks instead of days.

I have heard that taking zinc will help get rid of a cold more quickly. You can buy zinc lozenges, just like cough drops. You can avoid getting a cold by keeping your hands clean (so you don't pick up germs) and making sure you get enough Vitamin C. You could still catch one, but those two things should help make it less likely.

As SOON as you feel it coming on, grab lots of vitamin C. Usually when I start to get that "I'm catching a cold" feeling, I go nuts with orange juice and anything that is loaded with vitamin C and it usually stops the cold before it starts.

get plenty of anti oxidants and vitamin c. also Nyquil! your body heals while you rest.. if you can't rest while you're sick you're prolonging the sickness. For me a cold usually lasts 4-5 days maybe as long as a week.
Oh Airborn is GREAT if you feel like you're starting to get a cold.
It's basically like a vitamin cocktail.
