I am thinking of getting my own silkworms to make my own yarn..I think it is interesting..My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts..I am an avid crocheter and been doing so scince I was 5, The yarn is $60.00 per shank,but I can buy the pods for $10.00/per 500.. Do you think I'm crazy?

these animals wouldnt be harmed..I would only be useing the pods and the moths would live to produce more young.Its called peace silk process

Be sure you have pleanty of Mulberry trees, they eat the leaves.

Seems like a lot of work, but it's probably a fascinating process. I wouldn't personally do this, as my values would prevent me from raising animals for slaughter, but I realize that this is a minority view.

I have not investigated how this process works, but if I had to guess, I'd say that the time/materials involved in producing your own silk would be a losing proposition if your goal is a cheap source of silk thread.

its whole lot of work to spin the thread and then you have to loom it into a fabric or spin further into a yarn. but if its something you want to do read up on it and see if you cant do it. nothing wrong with wanting a real hobby and such. have fun

yeah why do think its 60 per shank it very hard to milk a worm if you eant articles i have them you dont have room for it

Yes crazy I think it's cruelty to animals worms or not. They spend their whole lives constantly working to build a home for themselves - all for you to make a doiley?
