Wow. Complicated question. It depends on the type of dying you want to do. Solid colors? Batiks, using resists (wax, etc. to mask off an area, preventing dye from taking hold in that area)? Marbles and swirls, using shaving cream? (No, seriously.)

Check the links below for some suggestions. The most important things are:
1. Start with a good fabric already prepared for dying. You can't just use any fabric.
2. After the fabric is completed, wash thoroughly before using in quilting. Dyed fabrics will bleed. Badly.
3. Use quality dyes, made specifically for fabrics.
4. Experiment. Have fun. Make up your own methods.
