For small moles that eat insects the best thing to do is get rid of the food source. Kill the insects! put down grub killer with diazonon or merit in the main ingredient.
For moles that are going after your bulbs and hosta etc.
The Wrigley with sugar (not sugar free) Does really work.
Oh, and by the way, mothballs do NOT attract insects, but they also do not deter moles!

Juicy Fruit Gum! Put in the holes and thay smell that and chew it up and thay can not digest it and die. Old, Old Old way to get rid of them. Funny! It works and moth balls only attrack bugs and are danger to other animals like cats and dogs.

Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum. They are drawn to the pleasant scent and can't resist it. They eat it, get constipated and die. It's true. My mom wouldn't let me try this. She didn't want to kill them so I kept tapping down their holes for a week and they finally packed up and moved away.
