I would like to be the lead singer for a rock band, and I am talented. However, no one believes that I will get far because of my race (I am Honduran, but I look African-American) and I am a female. It makes me want to give up, but I realize that I could be the first one to "make it". I have never heard of someone like me in the music industry. If I have to be a pioneer, then I'll be a pioneer, dammit!

I would appreciate any comments!

I know about Jimi Hendrix, but I am a 19-year-old female. Heard of any women?

The first order of business to become a great entertainer is to develop some hide. It's gonna get tough out there, and if you can't take a little heat, pick another trade.

All of the greats over came enormous odds to achieve their place in history. When you make it, you will be able to say the same. Be sure to honor the greats that came before you, that carved the path that you can follow. And then one day, an up-and-coming star will do the same for you.

I'm 100% Asian and am a rock music enthusiast--I've never gotten turned down for singing. I don't see why an African Honduran can't make it.

What others say about you is none of your business. Nobody can pull you down unless you let them. So you go girl, show them what you got!

Btw, Hootie and the Blowfish, a pop-rock band, has an African American singer.

No black rock singers? I think someone needs a history lesson. Let's start with Jimi Hendrix.
Chuck Berry
Bo Diddley
Prince
Tina Turner
Stevie Wonder
Lenny Kravitz
Living Colour

Jimmi Hendrix is one of the greatest rockers that has ever lived. Lenny Kravitz is an amazing rocker. Chuck Berry....and the list goes on. If you find the right band, I'm sure you'll go far if you have the talent. Contrary to popular belief, race has nothing to do with it. It's talent.

Living Color was a African American rock band. Tony McAlpine is a blistering rock guitarist. There's a number of African American rockers out there. So your'e not alone. Lets us not forget Jimi.

i think you are absotly right
so many people have come so far
in life with being different races
but some things will never change
and i think dark girls
who love rock, and dress rock
and stuff like that, are so adorable
just because its so rare

i say just keep going
if thats what u want
get it together
get other people
who are really good
to get u going
and have the same ambition as you
dont give up
no matter what people say
thats why there are so many
amazing people n this world today

There's another problem too. Not a lot of bands have female lead vocals and those who do only make it big if the singer had a very powerful and unique voice (ex.: Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil)

If Tina Turner can rock w/ the Stones & sing songs by The Who...back in the 60s & 70s, you can do it today.

The playing field for 'discovery' is WAY more level today too. Use myspace to get yourself/music out there.....

Guess what? You're the one thats "pigeon holing" yourself. Aretha's music transcended soul to rock, so did Chaka Kahn(Remember Rufus?).If you got the pipes, go for it. Music needs a kick in the a**!
