On my car, when I hit the brakes, the pass. side rear wheels tends to grab first and lock up and release repeatedly. If I ease into the brakes.. no problem.. The ABS light is on on the dash. I have removed the drum. Plenty of pad on shoes and lining is not scored. Backed adjustor off a bit, solved problem for about two week, but doing it again not.. Advise?

The sensor or the Exciter ring is not working properly or the ring is bent. The Exciter ring looks like a little mini rotor that the computer uses to determine if the wheels are locking up or not and the computer sends the info to the ABS unit to tell it how it should be applying the brakes. The sensor and exciter ring are located on the back side of the rotor or on the axle near the rotor. The only other thing I can think of is the Proportioning valve is not working properly or their is something wrong with your ABS computer. Your rear brakes are supposed to activate first!.When they make contact with the drum it creates pressure in the brake lines and the proportioning valve opens to allow fluid to the front brakes.Check these items out and you'll find your problem

you need to hook up a GM Tech 2 scanner to your car and scan the ABS system for codes and repair it accordingly. Being familiar with that particular system however, You could have 1 of 2 different problems,
1 that wheel sensor is bad or 2 the Motor pack for the ABS unit is either defective or more commonly the gears on the bottom side of the motor pack unit have either stripped or the retaining nuts have come loose and is causing your problem.
Another thing not to overlook is warped rear drums BUT that will not cause your ABS light to be on.
Take your vehicle to a Qualified shop that can diagnose your ABS system.

If your ABS lamp is on then the system is probably off. Find the ABS fuse and pull it out. Drive the car and see if brakes act any differently. If not, then you have a mechanical malfunction -- brake drum warped, wheel cylinder bad, etc. If by some chance the grabbing clears up, then you move on to the ABS system. Check tone rings for crud build-up on the teeth, sensors clear, etc. Sometimes the parking brake can warp a drum and cause similar problems as yours.
