For example, how much pay will a technical writer working at a retailer receive vs. one working at a retailer, a university, an insurance company, a small business etc. What about a web designer? Which type of employer would pay the most for this position? The least? Thanks!

To elaborate, I understand that jobs pay differently depending on where you live, but GENERALLY SPEAKING, the same types of employers are going to still pay more than another type of employer, just on a different scale for different locations. I'm looking at about how to price myself differently going from a position at a fortune 500 e-commerce retailer to, hopefully, a position working for a well-respected university.

Salaries are not just based on Job Descriptions, but demographic locations. Someone in Tenn. will not make as much as someone with the same job in Washington D.C. for example.
