When those religious pilgrims left British soil to go and be more uptight somewhere else, they landed on Plymouth Rock. They had none of the real British sense of humour, wit, sarcasm, with a liberal sprinkling of **piss** taking and not taking ourselves to seriously. The pilgrims attitudes must of been passed down the generations so that we have the Americans we have today whose idea of modern humour is Benny Hill. Still cant believe they get The Office over there!!!

Oh Come on Zulu9, I think Americans have a great sense of humour, after all, look, they not only voted in Bush once, but twice!!!! Allowing the rest of their global neighbours another cracking good laugh for a further 4 years.

So, I think they understand irony, well in politics certainly.

To Americans everything is Racial. Everything is political. We are a war mongering nation created by the Bush Administration, the Clinton Administration, the Reagon, the Kennedy, keep going until you get to Washington. We only find humor in destruction of life and world domination. While Great Britain and Asia and Europe were the first to be war mongers who taught us well in the English books we were forced to learn, we have learned behavior issues now. We want to conquer, kill, and our men want to take all the new brides on their wedding night and bred it out of them. We want to torture our prisoners like the vietnamese did the Americans. We want Europe to fall so we can come in and take over. Bush wants to become the Anti Christ and stamp 666 into all of your foreheads. We have time for humor but we are busy picking up where Great Britain left off. After all our presidents are desendents of the King of England.

Maybe they don't understand our sense of humour, they have a totally different one to ours, a lot of American humour is what I would call black humour, we all see things differently and guess if we all laughed at the same things it would be a boring old world.

unless an american has lived outside the usa, i feel that they have no understanding of the finer points of wit, they are a nation of soap opera comedians and sit-coms where signs are held up for studio laughter. zero understanding, and even where i live in the philippines, this dreadful mis-understanding is deeply rooted- one cannot crack a joke without saying those eternally stupid words "only joking", because without that, the locals think you're serious. it's so depressing i only joke with expat mates.

I was thinking the same thing. Someone reported me yesterday for abuse because I answered a cat question with my standard cat question answer "cats suck dogs rule".

And yes I am a Yank!

We do alright humor wise, I think people on here are just a little tense with all the Bush bashing and war talk.

oh great, 1/2pint...don't get your panties in a wad!

I'm a Yankee who happens to be Indian (like cow boys and Indians) and i am laughing it up most of the day!!!!!!!!! and I'm also wound tight when i need to be. if something is funny i will laugh, if it's not and it's insulting then i would be pissed. so, why does everyone these days have to use raunchy sarcasm???????????
