Because if you happen to notice, over 50 percent of the people on here either can't spell or use regional acronyms and sayings that some of the general population does not understand. Besides the english language was standardized for a reason, so everyone is capapble of understanding everyone else.

Too bad they didn't do the same in school. Assuming you were born in an English speaking country there is no excuse for most misspelling except laziness.
The spelling errors in answers are one thing but if you really want an answer to a question (not just a series of smart a..ed answers) it doesn't seem unreasonable for you to put some effort into it.

When words are spelled correctly, it is much easier for us to read your questions/answers. Besides, if/when you're spelling is poor, it makes you appear to be ignorant/lazy which I'm sure you are not. Therefore, you need to do the best spelling you can & use the spell checker to make sure. That's what it's there for. I'm sure you really don't want people to think of you as lazy/sloppy/ignorant.

People care because if you spell incorrectly and/or have terrible grammar, it's just disgusting. It's 2006, we're not back in the day anymore when people didn't go to school. You're supposed to be educated.

there really isn't a reason when you're trying to tell other people what you're thinking to not put in the effort to spell it properly. there's a check spelling button right above the answer window so you don't even have to be a good speller, but don't be too lazy to press the button!

When you write things that are unintelligible it is useless. Why should people have to try to decipher what you write because it looks like a foreign language? If you are going to write something, then write it so it can be read and stop using stupid one-letter abbreviations for words.

It doesn't bother me unless it's so bad that I can't tell what the person is asking or saying. Sometimes when there's no punctuation, it makes it worse! As long as I can tell what is being asked or answered, it's okay. A lot of misspellings are typos, anyway.

Why don't you use spell check? It's easy and convenient to use. Poor spelling reflects badly on the writer. It makes you look ignorant and poorly educated.
