Depending on the level of job you are looking for, the best job searching approach might be somewhat different.

Define what you would consider being a good job.
Understand what skills are important for that job.
Acquire or polish up those skills.
Make sure your resume is in top shape.

If you can afford it, consult a career coach. Otherwise as someone already suggested: networking, or tell all your friends you are looking for work, do some research on the type of company you might want to work for and approach them, post your resume online and network with executive recruiters.
