A couple of easy examples would be. Mixing fuel for weed-eaters and other small 2cycle devices that are designed to run on a gas and oil mixture. If the engine requires a ratio of 4 to 1 for example then you would mix 4 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas.

Currency exchange rates are the other example.
1 US dollar may be exchanged for 3 franks as an example. The ratio would then be 3 to 1.

Hi:

Ratios are used in everything from mixing things to making model of things. it one of the most powerful tools in mathematics

Trigonometry is nothing but the study of ratios of triangles in fact the have special names for them call Sine, Cosine,Tangent,Secant, Cosectant, and Cotangent

When your mix chemicals and bake food you use ratios
or look at a map of your town your using ratios because a map is scale to the distance of your town to the scale of the paper

have you made model airplanes, car, trains , spaceships, ships or buildings? Well your using ratio again in order to shrink it to fit in your home. because a 200 ft real train would never fit in your house but a 16 inch -1/12 scaled model of the same train can fit real good on your shelf so you can see where ratio are used.

here a small list of where ratios are used

Building & construction
model making
blueprint and drafting
art & crafts
land surveying
die and tool making
Nature
Ancient History
Food and cooking
Chemcial mixing
auto manufacting
airplane and parts making

From iCalculator:

Ratios are used everywhere, from cooking to building. Here are some common applications of ratios in everyday life:

Mechanics: spanners/wrenches are all marked with relevant ratios which correspond to the nuts they fit.

Businesses and accountants: use ratios for forecasting and financial controls (expense ratio, turnover ratio, debt ratio, asset ratio, price ratio, earnings ratio etc.)

Food: the correct diet has the right ratio of food groups (one of our five a day is a common ratio we are all familiar with.

Education: ensuring the right ratio of students to teachers is key for effective learning. Class sizes in terms of the ratio of pupils to a teacher is a common ratio concern.

Ratios are used in all kinds of ways such as currency exchanges, (1.25 for every euro for example). Supermarket math (whether you know it or not) is all about ratios. 3 dollars for every chicken, you want three chickens. so you solve the equation $3/(1 chicken) = $x/(3 chicekns)
