It kind of depends on what you want to do. You can get a longboard if you're just looking for speed, but I would assume you probably want to do tricks, and in that case, any average size board (approximately 7.5 x 31in) will be fine. You can go with a mini, but my recommendation would be an average board.
The main thing you'll probably be concerned with will be the size of the wheels and the bearing speed. The larger the wheels, the faster you'll go, but smaller wheels are better for tricks. Anywhere between 50mm and maybe 54mm is what I would recommend. Just go with whatever you like though, it's your call.

seriously, at this age, any size is good. like the twig element board, or any other brand with average size. I have a toy matchine that I bought 2 weeks ago and you can barely see the graphics in the middle from trying noseslides and getting boardslides. make sure is not TOO wide (experience, bad for flip).

7.25 is what i got i'm 12. not many people have this small of a size because hard to flip but you can go high on these boards to ollie over 11 stairs.try a 8.00 or a 7.50

The best size of a skate board for anyone is a little bit longer than your sholderwidth and just as wide as your shoe size.
