I am a special education teacher and I stop any words that put anyone down. I would recommend that you either speak up when they say something that you feel is rude or that you speak to a trusted teacher about your concerns. The teacher can then deal with. NO ONE SHOULD EVER PUT ANYONE ELSE DOWN! What gives them the right to judge anyone else? The teacher can also turn the situation into a learning moment for all the students which help them in the future.
Hopefully, one of my suggestions will work! Good luck in the future!

First of all, you are not slow! Some people just have to learn in a different way than most people do. That makes you unique, not slow! I believe that God gave us each a special burden to carry and yours is to learn differently and to handle the learning and the rude children around you. some people are blind and have to learn differently, some people are alcoholics and have to learn to stay away from it, some people never have self-esteem and they have to learn to watch what type of situations they get involved in so they will not get hurt! There are many many more but I will stop here. I hope you understand this. The rude child has to learn to be friendly and to not pick on others. The kids doing this usually are trying to keep everyone from noticing what is lacking in their own life! Maybe they are abused or very poor, or hungry! We never know WHY a person acts like they do but there is usually a good reason, especially for children. Please be kind to everyone. Try to ignore the bullies or just smile and don't let it bother you. If they see that it doesn't bother you , they will stop and find another target! Bless you and stay sweet! I taught 5th and 6th grades and have raised 3 kids and have 7 grandkids so I know about kids and their problems!!

First, it is great that you don't think it is acceptable that other students are calling special education students names.
Bullying is an issue that will continue if people don't stand up. It is difficult to speak up and it is definately a big step for you take. If you believe strongly in stopping the name calling you need to say something. If you are afraid of the reprecussions against you, you can talk to a teacher at your school. Make the teachers and adminstrators (Principal and Vice-Principal) aware of what is going on.
I commend you on wanting to stop the bullying but also realize that you are in a delicate position. If you speak up to the bullies you risk becoming a target yourself. Don't be afraid. There are others out there that feel the same way. Do what you feel is right...go and talk to your teacher or the special education teacher.

Speak up. You'll feel better that you did. If they start being mean to you and keep being mean to the kids with special needs, it is alright to go to a teacher you trust about how it makes you feel.
You are a great kid! Be proud of yourself!

then tell them to stop. but if you think about it it's better to call them slow than to call them retards. i don't like it when people pick on people who have disabilities also. i work with them and they are great people. make a difference and put a stop to it. good job.

At least you're on the right track trying to teach them empathy. Explain to them that not everybody learns the same as them, and that no one is perfect - including themselves.
