I just finished this story with my classes and this question is tricky! The reader knows a lot of information about both Zaroff and Rainsford; however, the reader has more details about the thoughts and feelings of Rainsford, especially during the hunt. Zaroff responds to Rainsford's traps along the trail, but if you look back, there are specific details about Rainsford's plans and strategies for surviving the game. It is third person limited.

It is limited to only the two characters. It is limited to Rainsford and Zaroff. Had it been omniscient, we would have had everyone's viewpoint.

Third person limited. We only hear the thoughts of the main character--we never hear the thoughts of other characters (like General Zaroff).

The irony in this is that Rainsford is a hunter himself yet he is being hunted by the general and his partner Ivan like an animal.
