You can always write something that you really care about. Think back to why did you choose your field of study, what do you want to do with your degree, what kind of job do you want to take etc.

Given that this is for an award, you might also consider a topic that is more likely to be respected by evaluators. Looking at the project from their point of view - Do they want alumni to be high power and high influential? Then you might want to write about how you will climb the corporate ladder and be a c-level executive, or run your own multi-million dollar company. Or maybe they want their alumni to care about the environment. Then write about how you will help make the world a better place.

Good luck.

Like earlier answers, you need to convey your style and passion (no pressure) judges read hundreds of papers, so you need to stand out. Don't give generic and vague things like "I'll be working on my Masters in blah and working" be specific. Show that you have a hold on what you want to do in the future. Don't be afraid to say that your sure, but you may want to be open to the uncertainity of the future too. Again, it's all on what you want to convey. If you enjoy swimming and you want to major in sports medicine or excercise science show how swimming influenced your choice of major and how you may want to create similiar positive or negative experiences in others. Get personal, get deep, good thing is you'll never have to see these people so you can be as open as you want.

One way to start is sit down and do a brain vomit. Write down anything that pops into your head about your future. Don't hold back just write. After about 5min. or so look at what you wrote. You'll be suprised to see patterns or similiarities in what you write. Maybe this is a place to start.

Good luck with the essay.

I'm guessing that you are finishing high school and this is for a scholarship. Five years later you will be done with college and starting a career. What you want to be doing depends on your major and details of the scholarship. (For example, if it's a minority scholarship you want to help underprivledged people of your race.)

Money is not so important. You are passionate about what you are studying and want to be accomplishing something in your field.

Another possible answer is that you will be in graduate school so that you can further persue your passion. So you will still be studying and preparing and possibly not accomplishing as much.
