Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Some women prefer to place one leg on the toilet seat or tub, while others prefer to squat down. After you find a position that is most comfortable for you, hold the tampon with the fingers that you write with. Hold the middle of the tampon, at the spot where the smaller, inner tube inserts into the larger, outer tube. Make sure the string is visible and pointing away from your body.
With your other hand, open the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening) and position the tampon in the vaginal opening.
Gently push the tampon into the opening, aiming for the small of your back. Stop when your fingers touch your body and the applicator, or outer tube, is completely inside the vagina.
Once the applicator or outer tube is inside of you, use your index finger to push the inner tube (the tube where the removal string is connected) through the outer tube.
Once the inner tube is all the way in, use your thumb and middle finger to remove the applicator or outer tube. Make sure that the string hangs outside of the vaginal opening. Later, when you are ready to remove the tampon, hold the string and gently pull it downward until the entire tampon is out.

the easy way to apply a tampon if you have never used one is to stand in front of the toilet, put one foot on the seat and relax, place the top of the tampon at the opening of your vagina, you don't have to insert it, then press the plunger to insert the tampon. or you can use ob brand tampons which don't have applicators, just insert it with your finger witch i think is easier for first timers. also when you pee hold the string of the tampon without pulling it out so that it does not get wet in the flow of urine, or just remove it when you go.

If you have tried tampons and find they leak, you are likely not inserting them deeply enough. One way to verify such would be if you can feel the tampon the entire time you wear it.
Try again but insert it further (you cannot get it in too far). Also, if you are bleeding heavily consider the next higher absorbency (regular, super, then super plus).

you can urinate with a tampon in I did not wear them till I was twenty five make sure that you get the right size and read the packaging and you should not have to swim if it is school go talk to a counselor pads are easier and less chance of toxic shock from wearing a tampon too long

Buy O.B. brand and follow the instructions on the package. They tend to not leak, and there is no plastic from which to extract them. And yes, you can urinate while one is in use. Good luck swimming!

go in the rest room and practice putting it up as far as it will go with a little bit of pull string to still tug on for removal...all it is girl is a cotton ball on a string ...if that helps ?... depending on your flow, heavy or light is how you determine the size of cotton you need, what kind of absorbency...it has nothing to do with size, thats funny! lol
