I've heard a lot about them, can't find their music for sale anywhere except Amazon so, which compilation or Anthology provides the best overview?

i would suggest "sons of mercury", that's going to give you the most overall, besides the couple songs they had on the radio. here's a good website to check if you are interested in the discographies of many bay area groups: http://www.deaddisc.com/index.html , it is mostly dead, but click on the bay area groups 1965-1970 link.

They really are boring. If you're into 60s San Francisco pychedelia how about Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead , Big Brother & The Holding Co, Blue Cheer (the original heavy metal band, remember Summertime Blues?), etc.
