Do most people try too hard to be cool ?

Most people in the 12 - 21 age range. After that, (or after marriage) the percentage greatly diminishes.

I agree with, and will add, to the above answer. Acting cool and acting like an idiot are often synonymous.

First, most people thinks this:

If I'm cool = People are gonna love me
If I'm not cool = People won't like me/won't give a sh*t about me

Naturally, humans need to feel that they are being love by some other humans. They will do everything they can to be cool and even change their personality. This may give them the illusion of being love but in fact, the others don't really love who they really are but they love their cool image.

The answer is to simply stay yourself.
Staying yourself = Cool

Being cool is a pretty relative term but anybody who acts like them self is being cool. Sometimes people are afraid of social situations so they try too hard to be cool as a defense mechanism. In my unprofessional opinion of course.
