I am not sure about america but it is assumed that also in the U.K accountants earn more than the average. However, as an accountant I seem to find that most people earn more than me. The differnece though is that when it comes to changing jobs through redundancy or just for a need to change as being an accountant makes this easier. With all the years I have been an accountant the most I have been without a job is 4 days and this was because I wasn't looking very hard. Maybe this is why on average accountants earn more - less downtime.

CPA's as a group are teh highest earning profession in South Africa, and should be similar in USA.

Survey says........yea, when they first start out with no experience! But when you work for yourself, a major corporation, or the government you make close to $250,000 to $700,000 a year. I know because I am a current accounting major in college.

There are so many various levels and titles in accounting........way too many to list. Also, geographical location enters into the average pay.
