to represent something better said in a picture then with words and it is something they can always carry with them alot of it is emotional (to me anyway)

I am not a shelterd person & feel that I have solid morals (I know that is subjective) & cannot answer for "everyone". I can only answer why I do & will keep getting them. The tattoos I have now, I designed, have meaning & represent something relevant enough to me that I want a small piece of art on me to remind myself of it everyday. Sure you have memories, pictures, journals... there are millions of aguments for having them and not. In theory..... to each their own. I have heard some pretty amazing comments from people. I generally do not feel offended but it always interesting to hear why I'm white trash, disgrace to my generation, why I'll never be taken seriously or do much with my life.... and all because of my art. I am 31 & was first tatted about 12 years ago.

i guess alot of it has to do with the people they hang with and some people just get them because the like tatto

To be an individual, which is ironic, because pretty well every one I know has one. Some people really take the time to come up with something that specifically represents something important or special to them, which is cool. You always have to appreciate the people with complete randomness perminantly inked on their bodies. I met a guy with Kupa Troopa on his chest, and another with "I love tator tots on his forearm".

Tattoos or tats.... its a way of self expression.
Every tat is unique and represents the person.
I don't think its about being cool....."Whats being cool anyway?"
As an artist is to his/her canvas..... so is Tat Artist to the body. Not even a doctor can do what a Tat Artist can do..think bout it.
Its like roller blades ....everyone wants a pair.
Its like earrings and tongue piercing ....everyone wants one.
Its like...... one of the 8 modern wonders in world that keeps improving as years go by.
Its neat.... what appears on your body.

the question is a little broad simple because there are many reasons why people do things. We are all different it is our individuality that makes us unique. Some people get tats because they want to be apart of a certain group, some do it to express themselves while others get it for symbolic reason like to remember the death of a love one or the birth of their child or something that as significance to them. and... some people get them because eh... they look nice when done properly that is.

I just wanted one. And no one sees it unless I'm in a swimsuit. I got it about 10 years ago, before it was so trendy. These days it's as common as getting your ears pierced.

I think most people get a tattoo to try to fit in and look cool.
