I was suppose to receive a $1,000 check from my student loan that was to repay my parents back for books and misc. school stuff; however, my check was unavailable. After a long day of calling between my financial aid department and their prefered guarantor who handles the loans, I found out my school had somehow changed over my lender without my permission. Luckily a missing MPN kept the loan from going through. When I asked my financial aid department if there could have been a problem on their side and not the guarantor's side, I was treated very rudely. They even refused to look into their computer records to see if they had the mistaken information down first. They told me to recall the guarantor, ask to speak to a supervisor, and have them fix the problem. I was shocked that their resident loan advisor would treat me so rudely. This isn't the first time I've had issues with rude staff and missing/withheld monies. Should I write a letter to the president or to the school board?

Wow that level of rudeness is simply uncalled for! I think the individual in your financial aid office is just treating you like that because she sees you as a young know-nothing. But you are a student and they are an educational institution so naturally, your the customer and you deserve better treatment. Here is what I think you should do:
1. Call the lender just to be sure its not really their mistake although its not likely.
2. Visit the office in person and bring all your records. If the person you spoke to on the phone is there then don't waste your time talking to her. Ask to speak to her supervisor-everyone has a boss and NO is never the final answer. When you do speak to the supervisor, tell her the facts only. Be as calm,direct, polite as possible in letting her know how this problem might effect you. If and when a solution is found, politely let the supervisor know about how you felt you were treated by her staff. If this doesn't get you anywhere then proceed to step 3.
3. Contact the school president, try to see her/him in person and again, bring all of your records. Also be sure to contact your parents and give them the number and names of people at the financial aid office. I find that people arent as abrupt and rude with older people as they are with younger people.

Write to both, and to your federal senator and representative.
My wife has had numerous problems of this nature.
Loans were sold off to other "lending organizations" and sometimes those other organizations didn't think they were obligated to the same terms as what were on the original loan. Better make certain you get all of the "policies" in writing, don't trust hearsay over the phone because it won't hold up in legal action. Anytime you call those people regarding loans you should tape record every word. You do have to notify them first. We were told the federal student loan of $40,000 would be forgiven if my wife died or was unable to work so we didn't buy extra disability insurance. HAH! She now has some horrid nerve disease, can't work and since the loan got transferred twice to different lenders they say they aren't obligated to forgive it. They do place it in some kind of deferment but I fear that one day they will say the deferments have all been used up and tell us we have to start paying on it.
Keep all you loan papers in a secure place. A safety deposit box or a fire proof box you keep at home and don't trust anything over the phone.

Yes, you should, just maybe you are not the only one with a problem like this, but the first to highlight it, it is worth mentioning it to someone as people can very easy con students

Contact the supervisor of the person you talked to. And it couldn't hurt to contact the president and school board.

Off course write a letter and say how badly treated by there member of staff etc.
