Lenticels-Very small openings in plant stems. Allows for the exchange of gases into and out of the stem; specifically, oxygen entering the stem and diffusing throughout the stem tissue and carbon dioxide & water vapor exiting into the atmosphere.

Diffusion - The movement of materials from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.

Stomata are microscopic openings in leaves (usually the lower part) . The guard cells form the boundaries of the stomata, i.e., "guard " the opening, or stomata.. The stomata are usually open during the day and closed at night.. In sunlight, carbon dioxide and air (oxygen) enters the leaf through the stomata and diffuse throughout the leaf. Waste gases; carbon dioxide , oxygen, and water vapor (transpiration) exit.
The opening and closing of the stomata is believed to occur due to the concentration of sugar in the guard cells and the amount of water and sugar diffusing through the cell membranes; but it's just a theory.
