In theory, an infinite number of parallel universes (aka alternate realities) exist based on every decision you have ever made. Parallel universes are theoretical; they have never been proven either to exist or not to exist.
Alternate reality is a common theme in sci-fi. Stargate SG1 has several episodes dedicated to the theory. Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and Stephen King have all written about it. "It's a Wonderful Life" is basically about a parallel universe in which George Bailey was never born.

Because we are accustomed to the four dimensions in which we currently live (three spatial dimensions plus time), it's difficult to comprehend other universes 'next' to ours. The concept of time and gravity is obvious to us here on the scale of cow bells and golf clubs, but if you could shrink yourself down to the scale where a proton is the size of your house, the rules of quantum physics kick in and time and gravity are not part of how things function. I think you would need to get small, maybe on the scale where protons are the size of the solar system, in order to get an idea of how parallel universes interact with ours. That's the scale where everything is just forces and information, and the rules of how things interact with one another are simply way too different for us to understand. String theorists are having a go at it but it's a strange ride.
Things are the way they are, and people currently substitute understanding it all for a more plausible concept called 'god'. All-seeing, infinite knowledge, never began, and has no end. . . life at the sub-subatomic level -- it's just different names for the same concept.
As for connecting with the past or future: I think somehow we visit the realm of information (where time doesn't matter) and grab up bits of what was or what could be when we sleep. The feeling of deja vu inspires me to make that claim.

NO, no, and as far as connecting to a past or future, I do not believe in reincarnation, and I didn't the last time I was here either

It's not possible yet with the technology we have, but maybe someday. I'm sure there's top secret labs working on stuff like that all over the world.

It is beyond your comprehension and your spelling. A parallel universe does exist. It's called TV.
