i would just tell him.look i really like you a lot and i am hoping we could be more then friends and i would like to know how do you feel about me.Start with something like that.

Now that I'm a grown woman and married, I look back on all the crushes I had and guarantee that if I'd just told the guy I was interested, things would've gone better 100 percent of the time. Instead, I was always too scared to say anything and I'd just oogle him from afar until he was totally freaked out.
Don't write a note. Don't ask your friend to ask him. Don't play games or flirt or anything silly and childish. And please, do NOT say you love him. Just tell him you want to talk with him for a minute. Go someplace private away from all your friends, especially his (take a walk, meet at the mall, etc.). Then just say, "Hey, I really appreciate our friendship and think you're a really cool guy. I wanted you to know that I'm interested in going out (or being more than friends or dating or whatever term you prefer). What do you think?"
If he says he's interested, great! If not, be classy about it. Tell him, "OK, I just thought you would want to know. Hope I see you around." Then move on.

A lot depends on your ages, if you haven't finished high school might I suggest you may feel like you know what love is but the reality is love is more than just something you feel.
Regardless of that, communication is key to a good friendship and beyond. I would suggest that you ask him to go for coffee or a coke, and sit and talk. At some point, let him know that you enjoy his company, and can relax and be yourself around him. Don't come across to fast with the L word, just start out slow and see if the relationship grows.
If you feel embarrassed doing this then perhaps you should rethink your feelings, you may need to take more time and go more slowly.
But he should know that you enjoy his company, you find it easy to talk to him, and that you would enjoy getting together again for a coke or coffee, or maybe even a meal. Put the ball in his court and don't appear over anxious.

Honey just stand up on your own two feet ask if he has a minute to talk . Tell him you would like to get to know him better because you like him and see what he says . If he says he would go for that great, if not at least you won't be worring any more . Just go on to the next guy . Life is too short to worry so much .

just say I love you and it hurts too bad to keep it quiet any longer, the more i see you the more i love everthing about you, etc.
