We found the duplex we wanted and signed the lease. Then the landlord realized we had a cat and he did not want to rent that one to anyone with pets. So he showed us a different duplex up the road and we took it. We offered to sign the lease for that one, but he said "no , we'll take care of it." and we have NEVER receieved a lease. So, do we have a lease or not?!

No you don't have a lease for that one but you do for the one you don't live in. You may want to ask an lawyer about this you could have problems in the future. Hope it was a one year lease.

Either get them to void the original lease and agree to sign one for the correct duplex OR SEE AN ATTORNEY-AT-LAW TOMORROW ! !

I don't think you have a lease... you ARE supposed to receive a copy of it.
