My error says " we are sorry for the inconvenient but windows did not start succsefully. A recent hardware or software change might have cosed this. Then it gives me a list of start up options safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally.
I've tried them all and every time i get a plain black screen If any one could help I would appreciate it so much i need my laptop for school work thanks Lisa.

Sorry, without that Win XP installation disk your S.O.L. Unless you have another Win XP installation disc that you can borrow from a friend. Do a repair with it. To learn more about how to use the repair console go to www.microsoft.com and search for "Windows XP repair console".

Hope you have the install cd. Sounds like you are going to have to do a repair install from the cd.

try to reinstall your win xp recovery or just reformat the whole thing
