Martin Luther sparked the Reformation, but it was actually in motion about 150 years prior to Luther's 95 Thesis. John Wyclif, an Oxford professor of theology, mentioned many of the exact same things Luther does in 1517; including the bible in one's own language, the bread and the wine at communion are merely symbols, and the importance of education. The two reasons why Wyclif's movement was unsuccessful was because a) the printing press wasn't invented yet...so all writing was done by hand and news traveled much slower because of it and b) he lost support from important political people in England....Luther had the German Princes to back him up.

You sure are asking a lot of questions about the Reformation.
I believe that these are questions at the end of a history chapter and you don't want to read it. Don't use Q&A as a chance to not do your homework correctly.
I'm a high school history teacher and I assigned the same questions you just asked in succession. I'll see you on Monday bub.
have a nice day.

A Catholic Monk by the name of Martin Luther. If you go to a Christian Book Store in your area you might find a VHS copy of his life called Luther.

Martin Luther. He was unstaisfied with how the church was working so he posted his ideas on the church doors and the rest they say, is history.
