I want to leave my husband. He is abusive to me. I have been very ill and may be facing brain surgery. I live in New Jersey. I have a baby boy. If I go in a homeless shelter can I stay there in the daytime or do they kick you out and only let you come back at bedtime???Do you think they have cribs???Should I hitchhike to a warm climate, warm state? Do social workers come to the shelters and can I get social services until I regain my health and can work again? I have to research all of this first. If anyone has any knowledge of any of this, please let me know. Don't want my family to know my situation. Thank you much.

I say RUN, don't walk to your nearest shelter. You need all the help you can get. And I hope you do get it. Good Luck.

First I want to commend you for your decision to take your baby and yourself and leave this abusive relationship. I know God has better things in store for you than to put up with someone who abuses you and treats you wrongly. You concentrate right now on yourself and baby and getting the help you need.

I found a shelter in new jersey for you......called Jersey battered women's services. Im gonna put the link here for you they have numbers, a shelter and will help you and your baby out in this situation. I also want to say.....family is so important....dont shut them out....if you are hurting or need help once you get out of the relationship and into a shelter give them a call. Good luck to you and God bless. I will be saying a prayer for you.

run, do not walk to the nearest phone and call your local abuse hot line, where they can advise you where to go immediately to protect yourself and your child. do not discuss any of this with your abusive spouse. there are protective services all over the country, and i'm sure new jersey is included, that can help you obtain a better direction in your life, and protect you from further abuse from your spouse. drop the hitchhiking idea like it was nuclear waste.....never put you or your child in that position. call now....i don't want to read about you in the newspaper. i wish the best of luck for you, your health, and your baby boy. please stay safe.....!!!

Go to a women's shelter. If you go to a homeless shelter, most kick you out during the day. A women's shelter won't and can help with other things too.

Call the local House of Ruth. It can connect you to a myriad of resources.

Also, many shelters for women and children do not ask them to leave during the day.
