Some interesting foreign movies I saw include:

1) Brotherhood of the Wolf - Two warriors are sent on a mission to track down a legendary beast/wolf in the french countryside.
2) Raise the Red Lantern - Young woman becomes a fourth wife of a wealthy lord in 1920s China... deception, jealousy, and tragedy erupt.
3) To Live - A family lives through a tumultuous period in 1940's-1960s China.
4) Y Tu Mama Tambien - Two adolescent guys go on a trip with a late 20-something woman = comedy, drama, booze, sex, and painful lessons in life.
5) Europa Europa - Jewish boy avoids the Nazi death camp by posing as a nazi himself.. times get tough when he becomes romantically involved with a german girl.

das experiment - wicked german flick, this one. it's about a prison-simulation experiment for two-weeks, in which the candidates are selected by a computer to be either prisoner or guard. the experiment begins smoothly, but quickly deteriorates as the guards develop megalomaniac tendencies.

y tu mama tambien - awesum flick as well, about two teenage blokes in a road trip, a woman in her twenties, and raging hormones, and ye the dreaded friendship issue. screenplay by alfonso cuaron

la haine, cidade de deus, and le fabuleux destin d amelie poulain are good films too.

Yea City of God's good. Then there's the cliche Amelie, Love me if you dare, The choir boys, he loves me he loves me not. Those were french, and pretty good (Cheers to the french). Then there's also A Beautiful Life which is amazing. For foreign asian movies I would really suggest you watch "the way home," its really good, but maybe a little slow. And "Daisy." These 2 are Korean.

The Story of the Weeping Camel, a documentary about a family of Kurds and their camels. It sounds dull, but it has a really lovely narrative.
