I was just notified by Yahoo Answers that the community had picked the best answers on two of my questions. One of the answers was just totally ridiculous and the other threw an insult at me and never really answered the initial question at all. Some community seems to like to reward ******* answers with 10 point bonuses. This will be the last time I will leave it up to the community to pick the best answers. Not only were the choices bad news compared to other answers but Yahoo Answers congratulated me on having someone pick the best answer and thought that I would be pleased with their choice. They couldn't be further from the truth. Yahoo staff must think it appropriate for someone to use this site to throw deroggatory comments at those who ask questions. Some of those who post on this site think they are democratic Americans standing up for their outdated method of voting so I will post this notice in the politics and government category. Remember no government is perfect.

Thanks people, I realize that I could pick the best answer but it is sort of a double edged sword to let it be and see what a community of interest would pick, like do you ever go back and look at the answers you gave again and see what else was written either by others or the asker? To allow community to pick would be good if people returned to their answers because sometimes the asker resubmits a point to clarify your contribution so it is like a dialogue between you and the asker. The trouble appears to be that as Red from the 70's show would put it , "Some of the dumbasses go back to vote while the others don't"

It's your question, and you had the first opportunity to pick the best answer. If you decided to let 'the community' pick it, then you have no say in whether it was best or not. I doubt Yahoo staff looks at everything posted in here. Most of it is done automatically, there is an open period for voting on best, and the one with the most votes is best. Unless and until you complain Yahoo doesn't look. Sometimes I'm sure they don't look when you do complain, but it's their game, not ours.

Have you read the Yahoo overview?

Overview
Yahoo! Answers is an online community in which participants can ask and answer questions on a wide range of topics, from the serious to the irresistibly trivial. Yahoo! Answers strives to make the community a safe and enriching place by encouraging our members to conduct themselves with a high degree of integrity, decency, and respect. Your use of Yahoo! Answers is subject to these Community Guidelines. We reserve the right to modify these guidelines at any time.

So, rise above it. And from now on, pick the best answer yourself because most just click the first one anyway and don't read them all.

Insults to you violate the terms of service and you should report the offenders.

I agree that the "best" answer often is not, That is caused by letting any idiot have an account and not really making much effort so far to purge the fools and jerks and letting those who really want to get and give answers do their thing.

I think Yahoo Answers needs some more monitoring to remove offensive questions and answers rather than just given ten points off "wrist slaps" and even worse punishing people who make false reports on things that are not violations.

The trick is running a better site without being too restrictive.

I guess that you did not notice the warning that your question was going to expire and that voting would take place? All you had to do is pick ONE of the answers to be the best...

If YOU don't do it... WE get to do it...

I like it... I voted for MY answer one time.. and Won the 10 points!!! hahaahahahahahaa!!! there was ONLY ONE vote cast.. and it was MINE!!! LOL!!!

Of course.. that hits on the other foot too.. I went through a LOT of trouble to answer the question (not yours I don't think) and then the person did not even leave any comments or pick a Best Answer...

And, since you don't pick a Best answer either... Maybe I'll start answering yours and then vote for my own answers there too...

Oh.. by the way... if a question goes about 2 days with only a couple of answers... that is probably all it is going to get.

That's why we aren't a democracy! You should hear the right wingers when I ask a question!

You don't have to let someone else pick the best answer, you can do that!

I have an issue with voting as well as most questions are political directed at a group, and those who don't agree, who may be correct, will NEVER be picked as the best answer! If you agree with the asker is when you have the best chance to be picked! I usually answer questions I don't agree with, like Liberals are Jerks?", and don't expect to get best answer! I don't concern myself about it!

I have met a lot of people on Y!A. I was invited by Yahoo to the Maker's Fair exhibit where Yahoo showcased Y!A, and I met a lot of other users there. I was also invited to the Y!A birthday party along with 50 or 75 other people. I received an award there for my participation. There were a lot fine people there, including many singles. I personally know of at least two Y!A participants who have "hooked up" through their association here.

I think you can't gripe about the answers that were picked if you left it up to other people. To get the answer you think deserves the 10points you have to be the one to pick it.

You can't be lazy and not pick an answer then complain about the outcome.

Resembles the thousands of people who don't vote then complain about the president or passed propositions.

maybe you should be the sole judge of what the best answer is to every single question asked by anyone.

Why didn't you pick the best answer yourself?
