Depends on what kind you're looking for. Generally, building your own system costs the least. Try searching newegg.com for refurbished computers if you don't know how to build one.

It depends on what you want. I got a new computer for my birthday. My old computer was 5 years old, had XP on it, and worked like a charm. There was nothing wrong with it. My SO just decided he wanted me to have something new. I sold the computer to one of my relatives for $100. She is happy as a lark! She only needs it for word processing, email, and some small games she plays. So we both a got a good deal. The thing had two hard drives in it (not compatible with the new computer) and a CD burner and a separate DVD player.

You can get a low cost Desktop from WalMart. Look over each brand and options. You might pick up an HP or Compaq and enjoy their good, but low cost solution. Cheaper than that might be an eMachine. Try to set your budget to $550, then you will be surprised if you get a better deal.

I got my Compac Presario for $345.00 plus tax at Walmart. Came with computer, monitor & keyboard. They had some cheaper but not brands I had heard of. They also carry some lower end H.P.s but what is the difference anymore between Compac & H.P.?
