bill russell was a winner in grade school, high school, college and the nba....maybe its because he belongs to the era long time past but these people who think of others as the greatest never bother to look up russell's winning accomplishments.... and to those of you who chose chamberlain, you might want to check how russell dominated their encounters to wilt's frustration and you have the gall to choose wilt over rusell?....11 rings in 13 nba campaigns says it all and he even played in 12 finals....no player ever has ever achieved 12 finals in 13 seasons and to say no one will ever again is a safe bet....being great should never be about personal records, flashy plays, or scoring many points...it should be about winning and there is no bigger winner than the great Bill Russell

Has to be Wilt Chamberlin. The man dominated his era. He also scored 100 points. Check out his numbers, the man was ahead of his time. If he played today, he would take Shaq to school. Numbers don't lie, checkout his stats.

Let's see: Bill Russell won back-to-back NCAA titles at USF. Then he won a gold medal in the Olympics. Then he won 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons.
So the tally is 14 CHAMPIONSHIPS in 16 seasons!!!
Case closed.

JORDAN...HANDS DOWN...LEST'S SEE THE QUESTION WAS NOT WHO HAS THE MOST RINGS, OR WHO WAS THE MOST DOMINATING. DOMINATION AWARD GOES TO SHAQ ANYWAY..THEY MADE AN ACTUAL STRATEGY IN THE RULE BOOKS FOR HIM (HACK-A-SHAQ), WIDENED LANES AND REINFORCED RIMS JUST FOR HIM...THE BEST PLAYER IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT THING..WHILE RUSSELL WAS A LEGEND, HE WAS MOST KNOWN FOR HIS DEFENSE AND NOT MUCH FOR HIS OFFENSE. JORDAN HAD BOTH OFFENSE AND DEFENSE AND WAS KNOWN FOR BOTH. AND JORDAN PLAYED AND BESTED SOME OF THE LEGENDS IN THE LATE 80"S, 90'S AND THE NEWER GUYS, SO HE TRANSCENDED GENERATIONS AND BEAT THE KIDS WHO GREW UP IDOLIZING HIM

another question that is asked every day.
why dont you look at yesterday's answers. and the days before that. this question is asked every day.
be original........ man...
to the dumb ones that think Wilt was great,,,, well-- when you are 7 ft, playing against 6 ft 5 centers. makes it pretty easy to score.
and when you were allowed to jump from the free throw line, it was even easier for him to make a free throw. yes, we used to be allowed to jump from the free throw line....
