This began a week ago and now happens many times a day for a few seconds at a time.. There is no pain.

It could possibly be tinnitus...see the links below (especially the 2nd one). See excerpt:

It would be good to have an eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist have a look...speak with your physician about the vibrations...

First thing that comes to mind is inner ear infection. It is odd that there is no pain, but there are many symptoms of inner ear infections such as dizziness, itching, popping and crackling, just keep an eye out for other symptoms and go to the doc if you notice any.

Sounds like an inner ear nerve having a party. They used to do that on my left eye lid - they'd dance all day and only rest at night. What have you been up to lately to increase your anxiety or nervousness? Cut down on the coffee.

Could be the build up of an inner ear infection. Have your doctor check it out.

Your ears are ringing. Have you been listening to music too loudly lately? Perhaps your ear drums were exposed to something really loud. And no, you don't have a brain tumor. Whoever gave that answer is unrational.

hello, this has happened to me before what the doctor said it was, is spasms, little nerves, it will go away in time, try massaging that area it seamed to stop for me...Alan
