The Infantry museum on Ft Benning is nice. Callaway Gardens is just north of Ft Benning/Columbus in Pine Mountain. The Little White House (FDR's home) is north of there also.

Columbus has a lot to do but the smaller surrounding cities and towns are a nice, quietier alternative with a lot of sight seeing options as well.

Here is a website with some options: http://www.undercovertourist.com/united-states/georgia/columbus/attractions/

A friend of mine was stationed there for awhile and we rented pontoon boats and rode on the Chattahoochee River. There is a place on the river where you can rent cabins and camp out and stuff and the army gets discounts. There is also golf and lots of restaurants, but the pontoon boat was lots of fun.
