Ipod Nano is the hottest out there right now (and it's cheaper, alot!!). Your friends are gonna be jealous. Buying it is a good idea. But take a little look at the cons:
1. Ipod nano doesn't have the best audio quality (but you can't really tell if you haven't have a mp3 player yet)
2. Ipod Nano doesn't have a big enough screen compared to the Nano itself (but who cares if you dont look at your pictures all the time)
3. The Ipod Nano can be broken with only one drop (I mean it), so get it with you jogging is not a very good idea.
I have another consideration for you, which beat all the cons of the IpodNano : the ZenV. But the ZenV has its own cons also. Just telling you that....

It depends how much music you want to store on it. I currently have a 20 GB mp3 player, but I don't really need that much space. I like the 8 GB one...if you don't want more than 1000-2000 songs, it's a good choice.

I don't think you should....because that this is useless unless you really listen to music every single waking mintue of the day! get the video ipod, they might cost a bit more but they can do both songs +and+ videos!
