I'm thinking about moving there soon, but whats the rent like in a small 2 bedroom apartment or flat or for a small 1 bedroom apartment, maybe in or near london, but I'm wondering how much.

the cost doesnt matter that much, I live in New York City so it wont be that much of an issue, I just would like a ball park number, and if you have better places and the prices, thats fine too

The cost of living varies throughout England and will obviously vary according to your standard of living. If you are on a tight budget not including rent you could get by in the North East of England on 800 to a 1,000 pounds per month. This would cover your Food costs, Electricity, Gas, Landline phone, mobile phone, Public Transport costs, a little aside for clothing and shoes, hygiene costs, birthdays and christmas.
Whatever you rent plus the community charge would be on top of that figure.
Social housing costs the least as do rooms rented in large houses. The local authority do not like single sole tenants as they have limited bedsits and would recommend you to go on a waiting list with an association. If offered a bedsit it will cost somewhere within the region 60-65 pounds a week. Renting a room from a private landlord could cost you 40-45 pounds a week. If you rent a private apartment or flat you can pay through the nose. The average in Newcastle is approximately 400 pounds per month and more.
About 80 pounds a week will get you a room in a large residence outside of London say Chiswick or East Sheen both areas here in the Royal Borough of Richmond.
Social housing in the urban suburbs of London is in a similar cost range 90 pounds a week for a bedsit. If you want something seriously upmarket than you could be looking at paying anything from 650 pounds a month for a one bedroomed apartment. If you want to be near the Thames you'd be looking at renting around 800 pounds per month conservatively speaking.
Unless you have the means of earning a decent income, you should ask yourself can I afford London? or Where can I afford to live?

it all depends on what part of England you want to live. living in the metropolitan and the urban is quite different. salaries in the metropolitan is high so also is the cost of living. the urban or suburb is a bit simpler with less pay, less cost of living and less stress. anyway, a budget of £800 per month might be OK for you if you don't have any other demands apart from living, eating and some few going out

Its cheaper housing wise in Yorkshire and we have some very pretty places up here, 1 bed apartments start at £99,000 to buy and much cheaper than renting too and they are really trendy and in lovely buildings too, still if London is were you need to be then you will have to pay through the nose.

Each estate agent will have their own website but they all pretty much advertise on the same national websites as well. Visit http:/www.findaproperty.com/, http://www.propertyfinder.com, and http://www.rightmove.co.uk. All three pretty much advertise the same properties in London so it's a matter of using the website you feel most comfortable with. They'll give you an idea on what rent's are like across London.

a lot, the cost of living here is high.
An apartment/flat in or near London would be even higher.
check this out and see if it is in your budget.
