Hello,
My mom wants to move to Arizona. Not in Phoenix, but fifteen or so minutes away. We are taking vacation down there November 27- December 1 and while we are there, we are going to look at houses. Could someone tell me some nice towns to live in?

My mom works from home (custum bridal and prom gowns and alterations) So she doesnt need to worry about work comute. an hour from phoenix is ok. I didn't know it was so big (I'm from new Jersey and none of our towns are big.) We really dont want to live in the city, so suburbs are great!

Phoenix is a huge city, with a bunch of cities nearby, but it's technically all together.

I live in (north) Glendale, AZ. It's about 20 minutes from downtown Phoenix (where I work). There is also Peoria, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Surprise, and some others. All of these are anywhere from 5-30 minutes from downtown Phoenix. I live so close to Phoenix I can drive about 3 miles and I'm technically in Phoenix. All the cities are pretty much all connected to each other.

(West) Glendale and south Phoenix are getting really bad. There is A LOT of crime in those areas.

East half of Tempe is great, but housing costs are skyrocketing. Parts of Mesa are nice. The East Valley in general, especially where several cities meet, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa. Queen Creek is way too far for most people. I don't know anyone there who isn't trying to unload their house. Apache Junction is more acessible because of the freeway (and less) and is near the Salt River.

There is a lot of new development going on, on the West side of Phoenix, Glendale, Avondale, Litchfield Park, in Estrella..... in that area.
Nice areas are also Sun City and Sun City West towards Lake Pleasant.
I am only familiar with the West Side, that's the only Info I can give you.

i live in surprise, it is northwest of phoenix, and about 45-60 minute drive, about the normal to phoenix. glendale is also a nice area and is close to phoenix, and still gets the bus system if you dont drive. both areas are good. peoria is around there too, and you dont pay very high property tax, or sales tax. surprise has a higher sales tax, and normal property tax, but is a good place to go if you want to buy cheap, and sell for higher in a few years.

I would look into the following areas: Tempe, Mesa and Scottsdale. There is a complex of townhouses called "Villas Las Palmas" on McClintock and Elliott. My sister used to live in the complex and it is still a very nice place!!! See if there are any houses for sale in there. Its very quiet, and its just a really nice place to live. All of Tempe is very nice, along with Scottsdale!! So, wish your mom luck and have fun while you are out there!!! Im going out there on November 3 to find a apartment to move into next year!!! Have Fun!!!!!!!!! If you need any other information, please don't hesitate to email me or IM me!! My name is Yvonne!!!

15 minutes is still in Phoenix Traffic is terrible so you will need to decide what areas of the Phoenix area you want to be in but in all directions are nice suburbs but count on a 1 hour commute to central PHX

If you want to stay in the "Valley", check out Mesa and Apache Jct., but if you want to stay away from all the traffic, people and 'hustle-bustle', then I would suggest looking much farther out. Wickenburg is wonderful, but it will take you some driving to get to Phx. If it is the small town atmosphere you are seeking, then check out Black Canyon City or New River.

north valley- Anthem, New River
east valley- Scottsdale, Mesa
west valley- Surprise
stay out of the south valley
Personally I moved from west side to northeast and it was a fantastic move. The west side is getting cruddy.

Fifteen minutes away is still Phoenix, and the traffic is brutal, it is better to tell us the town your mom will be working in.. I could advise better if I knew.
