Well if that were true, why be concerned? There is nothing you can do about it if nothing exists. And who says its a FACT anyway?

Because I think most people believe that when they die, there is something. Besides, what are you going to do about it? Why stress about the end and not enjoy each day? What a waste that would be to worry your life away when there's nothing you can do about it anyway, is there?
The best thing you can do is to get up and live each day as if it were your last and treat it as though you were never coming back. What footprint would you want to leave? What mark on society do you want to have? Do you even care if you make a difference? I do and I'm an atheist. I want the world to be a better place. I want it to go on and on and on. I want more for my children and my children's children. Why? I can't tell you, but I do.

I would challenge this statement on a number of fronts. The evidence suggests that people are PLENTY afraid of death. And who says that when you die nothing exists - billions of people have lived and died - yet you and I exist. But if death means only the cessation of all forms of awareness - what is there really to fear ? What comes after life would be the same as what came before. I think most of us deep down believe there will be a reckoning of some sort after die - it's hard for most people to accept that people can do all manner of grievous wrong without paying some price for that - and since all of us have done wrong - all of us have reason to be concerned. Make peace with God before you die - preferably long before - and enjoy life - possibly eternity - free of guilt and shame

Just exactly what is the point of being so concerned about it ?There is nothing that we can do to prevent death. Prolong- -yes or maybe, but prevent- - - no way.
What would you expect people to do ? How should we show this concern ? I expect to be a thousand years from now just as I was a thousand years ago. It wasn't at all bad, so why the concern ?

Well, it matters about your beliefs. Most religions believe in an afterlife, while others believe in nothing after death. The belief of an afterlife can create fear of death, due to where you could end up for eternity, but not fear of having nothing after death. Belief and faith is a strange and complex thing.
On another note, maybe rewording your question to "Why are people so greedy when they know they'll be leaving everything behind when they die?" would be better.

From a purely scientific view we are bodies electric. Our brains operate on micro-electrical impulses. Now, what did Newton say about energy? It doesn't disappear, it merely changes form. The later part of his statement sounds eerily familiar to what theologians say happens to our "essence" after we die; it merely changes form.
You should read current, theoretical physics like super string symmetery and quantum mechanics as explained by the likes of Deepak Chopra and other gifted thinkers who are tieing eastern mysticism and western physics together into a system of thought that will someday prove to be the best explanation re: existence.

If nothing exists after we die, why should we be "concerned"?
People need to be "concerned" about what they do while they are alive. Love, respect, support, and protect your family to the best of your ability.

What's the point of worrying and concentrating about the future when you can worry and concentrate on the matters of the present? And how do you know that when you die, nothing else lies beyond the void of death to harbor your disembodied soul, to nurture your released spirit? If you believe in something hard enough, it can come true...whether by sheer luck or mental delusion. ^_^

How do you know that nothing exists after death? After having two very close people to me die, I'm convinced that there is an existance after we leave our bodies.

Because if we all worried about happens to us after we die or if anything, than we would not have time to enjoy what we can while we still have this wonderful gift of living. I used to think like that, but it did me no good.
