Maybe you could encourage her to try foster care. There are a lot of kids that need to be in a good home and it sounds like she can provide that for them.

Are you sure that she was serious, or was she just having a daydream outloud? Is she able to care for children physically, mentally and financially? Most people her age are looking forward to retirement not too long down the road, maybe she needs to start out being a volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, or do some foster parenting. Everyone has their own opinions, and mine is that it's not fair to a child to have a parent who may be in a nursing home before they graduate from college!

You cannot look back and redo it... and you definitely will not gain anything by resenting.
My suggestion is Foster Kids... they need a home - and it's not permanent... a year or two stretch - and it would be good for both -- they may not be your own, but they need good homes and a lot of love.
P.S. In most States 53 is considered too old to adopt.

OK, but what's your question?
Everything you said makes sense, but I don't really see a true question here.
ok, maybe I do see one: Yes it would definitely affect a woman mentally. You're right on track with that one. Maybe it would be beneficial/rewarding for her to become involved with some youth at a church? Or consider foster parenting? She probably needs something to fill that void in her life. Try to think of things that would be fulfilling to her, things that would make her feel proud and accomplished. Volunteering someplace that deals with children? Just some guesses.

At 53 it would not be wise to have a baby. There would be too high a chance the baby would have a genetic disorder. You should probably just adopt.

well. here is my thoughts. I had a baby that only lives a short time when i was young, 22 yr old. then tried and tried to get pregnant for a long time. i adopted a boy at 34 yr...then i got pregnant with my now 2 yr old. i am 41. its lots of work and you have to worry more about living long enough to get them through school. but if i the chance to have another ....hell yes. i think it makes us feel more complete. its a lot of work. but worth it

Well it can affect some women in a negative way. Maybe she needs to have counselling to come to terms with this. However, if she is still fertile and you want to try for a baby, I don't see why you shouldn't if that is what you both want. Take care : )
