If you are 22 and have never seen a GYN, you certainly do need to make an appointment. Be sure he/she knows it is your first time. If you would be more comfortable not being alone, it is acceptable for a friend to accompany you (she can leave at any point you choose).
GYNs are trained not only medically but also to have good interpersonal skills. You may want to ask your current Dr for a referral or recommendation if you like her/him.

A gyn will never and should never laugh at a patient. If you're not comfortable going to a gynecologist, take a trusted friend/partner with you during your exam. Also, most gynecologists have a third party with them to prevent accusations of inappropriate touching. You should have had a pap smear when you were 18.

Why would a GYN laugh at you? I understand you'd be nervous, esp. the first appt. but afraid of being laughed at? That's their job and they've seen it all. There's no reason to think that they would laugh at you. You may be more comfortable with a female doc than a male. They are veru professional....you have nothing to worry about.

No sweetie, that doesnt happen. Find you a female GYN so you will feel comfortable. I think you have some deeper issues. GYNs see p u s s y all the time so yours will be no diffrent. Do you feel that yours looks funny of is it your body?

One of my patients peed on the table during the exam. I didn't laugh or make fun of her.
If you are sexually active you NEED to see the gyn.

Such comments are unprofessional and are not made if such doctors want to stay in the profession.
I have known a few GYNs in my time. None of them have said anything to me that made me feel bad for going.
Please keep yourself healthy and make your appointment.

I have never had a gyno or a doc make fun of me but I did have a doctor tell me that the medication that he was going to put me on would give me the shits! that was his exact words. He had no manners but he was a very good doc and he is well respected because he is such a great doc.

No...most are very professional and realize you may be nervous so they try to put you at ease. Never even heard of any making a sarcastic remark

no, and no doctor should ever laugh at anyone...if she laughs at you she's obviously just jealous so keep that in mind. It's humiliating enough without making you feel like an outcast.
