Exercise can make you feel better. But the problem is that if you are really depressed, it's almost impossible to motivate yourself to do anything, much less any sort of exercise. If you've ever competed in a very strenuous sport like Gymnastics, Swimming, Boxing or Collegiate Wrestling, you'd know first hand of the euphoric effect that is present immediately after a particular challenging event... it's almost like an orgasm! It's simply glorious! You'd understand if you ever participated in some form of very, very strenuous exercise, some joggers also experience this same feeling (they call it "intoxicating"). That is why so many athletes use alcohol to "replace" that euphoria artificially when they no longer compete.
