I thought that music is like the classical, rock, metal, maybe trance, pop, country. Based on scales, chords, notes, melodies, harmony etc, not craps like HIP-HOP and RAP, where there is NO music at all. There are some guys talking bout sex, btches, drugs, killings, and offcourse those great rappers give advice like: Get rich or die tryin'. COME ON. Have u heard Viavaldi, Mozart, Guns n Roses, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nightwish, Johny Cash, Tiesto????? WELL THATS MUSIC..........!!!

History will sort it all out. The crap dies out, and the fine music survives. There is crap in every style of music, and fine music as well.
I'm a professional classical musician! I can tell you that there are some GOOD rap songs, and like the English Prof said, some of them are poetic. In the early days of Hip Hop, it was NOT about all the crap and sex and so on that it is now. It was about improvisation, about speaking your mind about life in the ghetto! It was a vital art form. It got grabbed up, canned, labeled, and produced to make a buck. Whatever sold yesterday is what everyone else wants to put out today.
Nonetheless, there is some Rap I like! Rumpshaker is really quite funny, and not too crude. The Wa Wa West is a very fun dance tune, and about Black Cowboys.....
MOST of it is mediocre to bad.
But , the caveat here is that the very same critique I gave of rap applies to a great deal of Rock, Country, Pop, Blues, etc.
History will sort it out. Those who are held up by many as the Greats of music while they are alive often fade out. Others who went virtually unnoticed -like JS Bach!!! - are finally revealed as the Masters they are.

I like all kinds of rock/alternative music, from My Chemical Romance and System of a Down to Maroon 5 and Gavin DeGraw. I can stomach some pop music, but ONLY if the artist can actually sing! I'm not a fan at all of rap, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, or some country music, but rap has to be the worst of them all. In hip-hop, some songs may be considered poetry (by others, not me), but rap is not music. Rap is talking with a beat, and the only music is the bass in the background. No one sings or plays an actual instrument (sometimes pop is like that - think Britney). I don't like jazz, but even if the singer isn't really saying anything, at least there are real people playing music in the background. I don't consider it music if you talk about your "girlfriend/baby's mama" as if she is a ten-dollar whore. It's derogatory, and the only way to get it off of the air is to not listen to it. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

When Mozart premiered the Marriage of Figaro there was almost a riot because of its salacious subject matter. Some hip-hop is terrible - I personally can't stand the ones that go on about the rapper's sexual adventures, guns and whatnot. But some hip hop is brilliant and deserves to be called poetry. Can I justify this? Well, I am an English professor, if that counts for anything.
Don't listen if you don't like it. But your judgement as to whether it is music counts for squat.
And honestly, *Metallica*...?

Well speaking trully and democraticly... sadly it is also music, and all other modern music like the contemporer that claim a broken glass sound as music.
Well, in the 20'th century they made a definition of music that every sound that human made purposely and with concept is indeed music.
Even thou i'm not a fan of rap, but I could still give some respect to those artist, because they know what they're doing (rap was a music of protest and critics).
but if we're talking about nowdays popish that play many kind of music but only doing it for fame and money, only follows that glory of other musician while don't understand exactly what they're doing (playing), that i cannot respect, i'm not even call them as artist, they're only some celebrities.
If you kill a lot of people with sadistic way but somehow symphatize people, then you're a celebrity;
If you're some important person in the goverment and use your power for your own benefit and become famous because people know that you're a dirty poiltician but cannot arrest you, then you're also a celebrities.
If you want to become a real artist, know your music, what your doing, not only because someother guy also do it.
But' it's always your own chose to choose your own music.
That's the democratic thing about music (art).

No matter what we do the white people gon wan say n do things to go against us....its music and thaths that

i agree with you...Vivaldi and the other great composers of classical music are out and Kanye West and Jay Z are the next best thing. I dont have a thing against them except that their music should at least make some sense and stop degrading women! all the music is about is what they call : ho's, whore, sluts, bitches, and the videos show women with barely there clothes on and shaking their butt. no offense but i would rather listen to the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, some country song by Tim McGraw or some techno/eurodance music such as ATB but at least the message that you get out of the song is that makes sense and the words are appropriate! i agree with you that Rap and Hip Hop is a waste of time like at my prom where i paid a lot of money to get in and listened to hip hop and rap music for the whole time except for 6 slow songs max!

Music is an art, entertainment, or other human activity that involves organized and audible sounds and silence. It is expressed in terms of pitch, rhythm, harmony, and timbre. Music involves complex generative forms in time through the construction of patterns and combinations of natural stimuli, principally sound. As a human activity, music may be used for artistic or aesthetic, communicative, entertainment, or ceremonial purposes. The definition of what constitutes music varies according to culture and social context.

Music is music. Lovers of Hip-Hop and Rap might diss what you call music and say it isn't. Opinions are opinions. Everyone has a right to their own, as long as they don't put down others'.
