Import a lactating yak from Tibet to milk for your child, or buy some formula for it? I was just wondering...I mean, I hear my Tibetan friend Chaou speak very highly of yak milk, and how it is used to feed babies in some cases. Will the kid stand a better chance in the absence of titty juice with the yak? Or is formula the route to take in that case?

Well, Jbw...I think your dog on your avatar is ugly. See how pointless opinions are? Thank you for sharing yours, and for the 1,456th remote psychological assessment breastfeeders have given me on Y!A for expressing mine.
Have a joyous Ramadan.

Go with the formula. I did with both my kids. One was hardly ever sick with anything. One got very sick as a baby. Both kids have some allergies but they run very strongly in the family. The one that got sick had asthma as young child with little to no problem now. My SIL breast fed her first child (for something like 6 months or so) who is now five and her asthma is not illness induced and is getting worse. As for the obesity thing, I doubt that formula is the only reason. Neither of my girls are obese. There is just too much we don't know about how the human body works. Make your decision and ignore those who want to make you feel bad over it.
BTW I also advise enfamil over similac. My second started on enfamil and had to be switched to similiac. She got terrible gas from the similiac and less from the isomil but still more than the enfamil. Finally they had to let me put her back on enfamil and she had no problems. Carnation good start is also a good one from what I've seen in neices and nephews.

I heard that goat's milk is better for us than cow's milk. A yak is a big, hairy goat.
Your friend is Tibetan so of course she is proud of her culture. In Tibet, yaks are easily accessable. Cows and formula are not.
Not everything is an insult to formula feeders.

i would not import yak. if i could not breastfeed i would go with formula.
but i do breastfeed.
i have nothing against formula or formula feeders , this is just my preference.
The way i see it is like this , say i want some mashed potatoes do i go with the mashed potatoes in a box or do i boil a real potato , i would rather eat real mashed potatoes than fake potatoes from a box. so i choose real breast milk for my baby.

Ok since you ask I will answer. Breast milk is by far the best and you should try if at all possible. If you cant, then the formula will have the nourishment the baby needs. Your local Health Department should have a WIC office. Women Infant Children will provide your baby and you with all the education and assistance you will need, if you qualify, to bring up a healthy baby.

I have to boys and done both, Formula works my oldest is 6 , and not dumb, sick or malformed, my youngest is 2 and was breast fed, he is Happy and healthy, not any smarter and does not have super powers . How ever if I had to choose you just can't beet the baby mommy bonding time you get when you breast feed. I love my bottle fed baby with all my heart and soul but feel just a teenie bit closer to my Breast fed baby. Mabey it's beacuse I can look at him any say to my self "I did that all by my self, I gave you life and sustenance all by my self."

Use Similac Isomil--I could only breastfeed for a month (stupid nursing nazis made me feel terrible about it too), and we had colic with the regular Similac. Isomil is easy on the stomach and great for gas problems.
Don't use yak milk unless your doctor reccommends it.
NEVER use cow milk before the first birthday. EVER.
Breastmilk is great, but even pumping can be a problem. If you can't/chose not to breastfeed, then don't. I hate people who make you feel terrible because you didn't. It should be a personal choice, not one deemed horrible by others.

Jellybean-You have some serious issues with the world. Just be happy with your own decisions and accept other peoples decisions. If you can't well.....then get on meds.
And by the way leave the yaks out of it they never did anything to you. Or did they?

I never heard of that before.... but i can tell you about breastfeeding and not..i did both...with my last though i didn't..I regret it...my baby died in feb... i don't think its bc of that, but i did breast feed my 1st and she's 3, but i didn't at all with my son... but i blame myself for anything that i couldv'e done differently, Honestly do it for 2 weeks, that will make their immune system great...and pump...it makes it easier for you to ask for help =) You will need it, 1st month or 2.... Good luck and please cherish that baby alaways, you never know what tomorrow brings...

I'd have to compare your titties to the yak's before I made a decision.

OKAY, THIS IS JUST SILLY. PEOPLE IN TIBET USE YAK MILK IF THEY CAN'T GET FORMULA, OR IT'S A FAMILY TRADITION AND PART OF THEIR CULTURE. IT SOUNDS EXPENSIVE AND I WOULDN'T TRUST THE STORAGE/SANITARY CONDITIONS! PLEASE ASK YOUR PEDIATRICIAN ABOUT WHAT YOUR OPTIONS ARE!
