3x-y=2
3x=2+y
x=2+y/3
if y=1 then x=2 1/3 and so on

hum..

3x-y=2 add y and and divide both sides of equation by 3.
x=1/3y+2/3
then use substitution on the origanal equation.
3(1/3y+2/3)-y=2
3y+2-y=2
2y+2=2
2y=0
y=0
substitution again to find x.
3x-0=2
x= 2/3
the answer is X=2/3 and y=0 or (2/3,0)

to prove: 3*2/3-y=2, so y would equal 0
and
3x-0=2, so X would equal 2/3
so
3*2/3-0=2. Correct.

but also, if X=1, Also Y=1. 3*1-1=2

RE:
solve the equation 3x-y=2?

To solve two variables you need two equations and not one. May be the asker expecting:

3x=2-y and so x= (2-y)/3
and y=3x-2

Anyway that is my answer.

This equation can't be solved! You can use it to find the x and y intercepts. Also, it can be rearranged to isolate either x or y, which is what I'm assuming you meant.

Here's how to isolate the variables:
y = 3x-2

or

x = (2 + y)/3

set x=0

3x=y+2

x= (y+2)/3

1. subract 3x from both sides and get -y= -3x+2
2. multiply everything by 2 and get y=3x+2
