Why do women bother to go to a GYN? I'm 22 and have never been. I don't think they have a right to be there.

if you mean OBGYN, then get rid of your attitude. It is very important to go. Some things happen down there that you have absolutely no control over. I would rather be uncomfortable for a few minutes then get a cancer and die.

There is one disease out there - and yes, it is the one your mother warned you about - you can get it from trying on your girlfriends bathing suit - or sitting on a strange toilet bowl. If a man catches it -- he just gets glassine warts on his penus -- but if a woman gets it - well, 6,000 women a year DIE from it. It is called Papilloma.

It is a virus. If it flares up - and that can be detected by Pap Smears. If someone has it and it is caught early - it is a simple scrapping that can be done in a doctor's office. If caught late, it could mean the removal of your uterus. The virus tends to make normal cells grow up a chain - if they are not cut out in time - they become cancerous.

Another thing about this disease - if you catch it - you may not know about it for 10 to 20 years. It remains dormant in your body till it is ready to flare up.

Why do I know about this - I lived through it - I'm still here. So please, do something good for yourself - if you have been sexually active -- make sure to make an appointment with a GYN - it's for you - no one else.

If you do have the disease - remember to tell the guy to get to an internist - they get to cut off every glassine wart!!!

Meanwhile my personal tip on GYNs. When I was young I went to male doctors. I hated Pap Smears - they guys were so insensitive as they went in to scrap off a skin sample. I finally found a woman - who worked very hard putting herself through medical school (I believe woman work 2x as hard as a man for 1/2 the recognition in school) and found I didn't even know that the smear was taken until it was all over.

Good luck to you. You are young - stay healthy.

What the heck are you talking about? Who don't have a right to be there? UMmm....It's called preventive maintenance! Cancerous cells can grow inside your vagina and on your cervix. If you're not going to an OBGYN regularly, so they can catch it and treat it, they can get too far out of hand and you can die from the cancer! IS THAT REASON ENOUGH?? I skipped my yearly checkup for 3yrs. strait, and when I finally went I had cancer all over my cervix and had to have surgery for it. I was lucky my gyn was able to remove it all. I had a friend that skipped her checkups as well, and had the same surgery, but hers was so bad she wasnt able to have children after that. Hope that clears up your question.

Arn't you the sexist lil rascal:). Women now have the same right as males. Don't you want to be free to make your own decisions.
Exercise is one of the most benificial options there is for your health and looks.
You may be a drop-dead gegours woman with good health, but rarely does mother nature forget anyone. Unless you are one of the 1 in 100,000 who can eat anything and never get overweight your chances of needing a gym is about 70%sometime in your future. The chances of you needing exercise for your health is somewhat higher maybe 85%.
The chances that you'll need both including a diet (if you never exercise now or watch your diet:) rises to 95% is your get older and your health deterates faster. And without exercise it will.

No one is going to make you go and have a doctor force himself down there. Most women want to go so they know that everything's okay inside. It's just a regular check up, no harm in having it done. Once I went and my pap showed an over growth of natural bacteria. I'm sure glad I went because that could have turned into a far worse itchy and uncomfortable experience if it went unattended.

I HATE going, but you need to go to check if anything is wrong with your body. If you have cncer, you could not even know it.

If you get checked and they catch the cancer soon enough they can try and do something about it... Or else you could just be too far gone because you didn't get a check up and die from something that could have been preventable.

Because we want to take care of ourselves!

With women, we don't know if there is a problem "down there" unless tests are done. Most times, we do not have visible symptoms, and by the time we do, the problem is too big to manage.

What the hell is this all about? You go to an OBGYN to have your girly parts checked out, right? Since the OBGYN didn't come to you, don't you think they'll check your stuff??? What a dumb question. Why am I responding? You're an idiot..

Well first off if there is something wrong like cancer, and you find it early they might can do something about it, wait to long and you might not get the chance to do something about it. So wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry.
