The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints.

Halloween is a holiday that was based from Pagan teachings. The All Hallows Eve is celebrated all over the world for all long at 1500 years ago. The idea of Halloween today with trick or treating come from the time of Witch Burning. Were Pagans wore masks and cloaks to go to their rituals.

But Halloween is based off of Samhain (pronouced Sow-in). To the Pagan Samhain is the witches new year, the turning of the wheel, the celebration of the dead and the last of three harvest feastiable.. Although it is celebrated many ways the idea is that you celebrate those that have passed in the last year and you give them a send off into the spirital. It is believed that the veil between the two worlds (the living and the dead) is at the thinnest and that comminucation is at the pride. It is also believe by many Psychologies that the idea of sending the dead and having them visit you helped those that have lost grieve

Now a days its all about chasing kids down the street and stopping on doorsteps for candy. Being Pagan i plan on doing this with my children but the spiritual is what i celebrate the most.

Halloween is the candy, fun part. Samhain is the wiccan holiday. All hollows eve is the christian holiday. All souls day (Fet Gede) is the Vodou holiday. It is also a time during the year when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest. That would appeal to those that practice spiritualism.

It is definitely not a curse. Masks are worn to ward off evil demons. Since they are said to walk on the earth during this time (Old Christian practice). The same idea as gargoyles. The ugly beasts screech when evil is near to warn people. That is why they are on many old churches.

I love it because of Fet Gede done on Nov. 2. During this time we make large feasts and visit our family at the cemetery. We make food for our ancestors and give thanks to the Baron (father of the dead and keeper of the cemetery) and Bridgette (Barons wife and mother of the dead) for allowing us to meet with our family again.

There are many many other stories about the practices of the different religions on and around this time.

I think it's only 2.

Religious: A lot of Wiccans do rituals on that day. Since that day is when the "border" between the spirit and human world is most thin. So most spells will be stronger. Wiccans aren't evil, but there are some "negative" religions that make it just seem evil.

Fun: For kids you get to dress in costumes and, best of all,. CANDY! *.*. It's also fun for the adults that want to go to costume parties.

Curse: Not to sure about that one. gomena sai[sorry]. ^^;

Halloween is nothing more than a holiday celebrating the art of begging for candy. Yes, it's associated with witchcraft and satanists and such, but if you think such people only practice their faiths on one day out of the year you don't know much about them. It shouldn't bother even the most devout Christian because it's just a day, any meaning it has it gets from you and you alone.

I think it was originally part of a Christian holiday (all-saint's day), but then it got changed and misused by satanists and that type of "religion." I personally don't have a problem with kids using it as an excuse to dress up and eat candy.
