First think about local issues. It is a local paper. Through out the process of finding a topic think smaller rather than larger. What age group are you in? College? High school?
Do you want to look at things as the town city country world sees them or do you want to tell the world what you see. There is something that you have seen heard or know you have an opinion on. Use this as a chance to get your voice out there.

Why not go to Google and type in the following:
"Current Events - world"
Then hit the "Search" button\
You'll find a plethora of news items to choose from.
Failing same, you can type in the name of your local newspaper or some other paper in a city near you. Also if you or your parents have any magazines around, check them also.
You should be picking the subject matter of your editorial. Not others. And it should be a subject that you know something about or that you are interested in.

If your family gets a newspaper, just look through the front page. Current events are all over the paper- especially the front page and subsequent pages.
Also, check CNN.Com. That site has loads of current events.
Also, check the networks sites: ABC.Com, NBC.Com, CBS.Com.
NBC has a "news site" MSNBC.Com
There are plenty of topics from which to choose.
Go looking!

Something that interests you. If you're not interested, the article will stink. Find something locally... when I was in High School, I did an article of the "Senior Prank" (dumping soap flakes in the local fountain). It was a great success!

Is Chavez who calls George Bush the devil trying to win the people over to his way of thinking being the Devils Advocate himself? Is the media too liberal at bashing Bush that Chavez thought it was a roast of George Bush? Even George Bush did a parody with the Double he used for a comedy stunt. Was this bad PR to make fun of yourself? Are politicians doing stand-up comedy now?>>>>> Who's laughing now?<<<<<<<
