Go to the store and get a stimulant laxative. It's uncomfortable while you're going and you might cramp up a little bit afterwards, but a non-stimulant might not be enough.

Also, if you're REALLY backed up, it's okay to supplement the laxative with a suppository (it's a little white pill looking thing you shove up your rear... gross but it works). That's going to feel really awkward, but about 45 minutes afterwards it'll be worth it.

If that doesn't work, you may need to resort to an enema. You can buy all this stuff at Walgreen's or CVS or Rite Aid.

If nothing works, you'll need to see a doctor. Don't let it get worse and worse, because that could cause a fecal impaction which can make you very, very sick.

To stay regular after you go, make sure you don't hold it in. MAKE SURE YOU GO when you feel like you have to; when you hold it in is when it gets difficult to expel and you get constipated.

Eating excessive dairy products (i.e. a cheese sandwich every day) can constipate you. Take it easy on the dairy if you consume a lot of it. Also, eat fiber. Green veggies (broccoli, spinach) are a good source of fiber, but you can buy it in powder at the pharmacy... you mix it in your drink once a day and you can't taste it but it keeps you regular.

Good luck!

it depends on what you consider constipation. If you got 2 or 3 days without going to the restroom (pooping) then that is normal for the average person. Not everyone does it daily. Its when you go one week or more without something that you should start to worry, the best way would be to get not only a stool softener but something like exlax as well.

right now, you could probably get yourself a mini fleet at the drug store, and you must eat more fibre, exercise more, and drink more fluids which contain natural sugar. So, eat at least 4 servings of veggies every day, eat only whole wheat bread, and drink juice at least three times a day. a serving is 1/2 cup by the way. If you don't like veggies, try v8 or other vegetable juice or sauces like red spaghetti sauce. Also, if you don't get enough exercise, your bowels will slow down. So plan on walking at least a mile a day.

If you dont want to try an enema, it's a drink called citrate magnesia, you can get it from rite aid or other drug stores like that. It's only like $3.00 and it will work in like an hour. It tastes nasty going down but it will give you quick relief.
