My daughter also got constipated with rice cereal. Try switching to oatmeal or barley cereal instead of rice. It helped her a lot. I also used prune juice. You can add a teaspoon or so to his cereal, or give it to him in a medicine dropper, but no more than a couple of spoonfuls at a time until you know how well it will work for him. That worked wonders for my daughter! You can also try massaging his tummy. Hope he feels better soon!

2.5 months seems very early to be intruducing cereal into the diet. Not that I am questioning your dr., but 6 months is the norm for rice. However when I did intruduce rice cereal at 6 months the rice give her terrible constipation. And I just gave her a little fruit juice and a little pureed prunes and then switched to oatmeal, but since your baby is so small I would either let the dr. know what is going on or stop the rice and just continue with the standard formula diet and see if things go back to normal.

Try fruit in the bottle. Gerber fruit or whatever kind you like this might help your baby, no bananas. I don't think he is ready for juices yet. I will come back to this question if I find something else out. OK? ****** If your baby is 2-6 months old offer 1 ounce of prune or apple juice twice a day, do not dilute with water.**********
For more info, go to Yahoo search put in baby constipated then hit search and you will get a lot of websites that will be able to help you, I got this information on #1. you need to have pdf files for this, but on others you do not need it.

The only communication your baby can do with you is cry...
So why does everyone automatically assume the baby is hungry?
2 1/2 month olds WILL wake up frequently to eat.. They WILL eat a ton during the day.. All the extras WILL constipate your baby..
Their tummys are SOOOO new and fresh and immature.. Cereal and other things are sooo harsh!
All I can say is it doesn't last forever.. it might feel like an eternity but I swear on my LIFE it doesn't last!! My son just turned 1 and my daughter is 7.. I too never thought it would end but I promise.. it does.. that cereal is too rough on the gi tract of your lil bub.

Baby's are supposed to be hungry at 2 1/2 months old. Of course he's going to get up a lot at night. That's what they do at that age. He's likely getting constipated because you are making the formula too thick.
You can give him diluted apple or prune juice to help him but really, just wait a while. The unsatiable appetite will decrease. He's hungry because he's growing so fast.

Its the soy formula that is causeing the constipation. Try giving him a bottle of the dairy Good Start when he hasn't had a bowel movement in a day or two. Talk to your doctor first, but this works for me.

You should be able to give him some baby juice. White grape always seemed to be better than apple with my kids. Powdered formula sometimes causes constipation more than the concentrate. Give him a little water throughout the day- maybe just a few sucks before you give him his milk bottles

It's too soon for fruit, and maybe for rice too. all babies are different, but if he can't process the rice I'd stick to the formula. babies who are introduced to solid foods before they are 4 months are at high risk for food allergies; constipation, rash fever, swelling, breathing difficulties. You might want to consider that risk before jumping into new foods. What's more important- 1or 2 extra hours of sleep for you both, or his health?
At 4 months try giving him oatmeal instead of rice and he'll poop just fine.

FIBERSURE!!! Thats what hekped my son-juice made him have diarrea, but his formula kept him constipated. finally I tried the fiber powder in his bottle twice a day(start wuth 1/2 teaspoon for every 4 oz.) this made him go once a day, then one day it just started going all by himself. Its worth a try-good luck.
