You are ok. To be able to count true friends on one hand is so good. That many true friends is so much better than countless aquaintences who would not be there for you if you needed them.

I am 58 years old and this is how I have conducted my life. I find I have no time to waste on people who are not sincere or are too needy. So I'm friendly but do not extend myself. If there is going to be a connection you and the other person will both feel it, both male and female. Then it will naturally grow from there without a lot of effort and will feel comfortable.

Of course it is. Partly, it may be a female thing (I'm male). Women often measure their worth by the number of friends they have. Having the most friends is not a competition. Making and keeping friends in not like collecting stamps, more like treasuring valuable works of art.
When you click with people, you'll know. Without being too autobiographic, because its your question, I don't like to "waste" time on small talk, but when I was married recently I had about six friends (inc one female) who I had known at average of 15 years. So for me, quality not quantity and depth of friendship matters most, and hopefully you'll find this for yourself if its what you seek.

It's okay if you are truely close to your actual friends. 40 years from now if you would still know them and talk to them, then that is okay to have just them, but I would try to make more friends if I were you, but don't drop your old ones.
Sometimes you need to seek friendships. (I can't believe I'm saying this considering I'm not social) In the end, if you make more friends it means you'll have good social skills and be able to deal and you'll have people to help you when needed.

I'm lie that. I'm shy as well which doesn't help. I talk to a lot of people but i could count the number of real friends Ive got. In my opinion its okay. Just as long as your not been ignorant and completely blanking them out.

Because you are afraid of rejection and loss.I'm the same way.I only have a few close friends and only one really best friend.I get very attatched to people really easily, and it hurts so much to lose a friend -they die;they move away ;they get angry over some silly thing........

perhaps it's because you feel insecure with people, and you find it hard to trust, it's not easy to make friends if you've been hurt and let down by people either, or it could be that you are are just reserved and like just to be with people that you know are really your friends, and there's nothing wrong with that.
